Celebration of Funerals
The series of services which the Church uses on the death of a parishioner provides a means by which the local community may support, with prayer, the personal grief of a family from the time of the death of a loved one to the final committal at the graveside. Some of the prayers are celebrated in the intimacy of the home, while other are intended as public worship in a church. The funeral rites thus present a balance between sharing with the personal grief of the family and the celebration of the public liturgy of the Church.
- When a loved one dies it is important for the family to contact the priest as soon as possible to make arrangements for these funeral services.
- "Celebrating a Catholic Funeral", a brochure outlining the Catholic Church view on services for the deceased is available from the priest.
