Riverstown Parish
Riverstown Parish, which embraces one hundred and one townlands and comprises the ancient parishes of Kilmacallan (now known as Templemore), Ballinakill, Ballysumaghan, Drumcolumb, Kilross, and Tawnagh, seems to have been in existence since the mid eighteenth century. This present union dates from 1876 when Ballyrush was detached from the parish and annexed to Ballinafad.
Currently, there are three separate church communities at Riverstown, Sooey and Gleann
All three communities are now served by one priest, Rev. A.B. O’Shea.
Family Trees
More and more people are trying to create family trees and seek information from parish registers. Any research in these registers is very difficult because of the condition of many of them. However, those who are interested will be pleased to know that all church registers in County Sligo have been recorded on database by the County Sligo Heritage and Genealogy Society based in the Tourist Office, Sligo.
